Murder on North Cumberland Street

Two victims were found, one was pronounced dead, the other sent to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

THUNDER BAY -- One man is dead and another was sent to hospital with undisclosed injuries as Thunder Bay Police investigate the city's third homicide of 2019 -- the second murder in the city this week.

Police, in a release issued early Thursday morning, say they arrived at a North Cumberland Street address after receiving a report of a male on the ground having been possibly beaten by a bat.

Upon arrival, they found two victims, one unresponsive and later pronounced dead. The second victim was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

A 22-year-old male suspect, who has not yet been named by police as the charges against him haven't been sworn in court, was arrested and faces several charges, including second-degree murder, aggravated assault, breach of recognizance and breach of probation. The incident occurred on Wednesday night at about 11 p.m.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

The name of the victim is being withheld, pending notification of next-of-kin.
