THUNDER BAY -- A man facing a number of weapons offences locally, and a homicide charge in Ottawa, is slated to be back in court Jan. 18.

Jonathan Ranger, 32, appeared in court via video Friday afternoon for what was scheduled to be a bail phase hearing at the Thunder Bay courthouse.

Ranger faces a number of charges including, 12 weapons offences, two drug trafficking offences, drug possession, possession of property obtained by crime under $5.000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and breach of probation.

The charges he faces were first brought to court Jan. 3 following an arrest by the Thunder Bay Police Service on New Year’s after they conducted two high risk vehicle stops on Memorial and High Street.

The vehicle search revealed loaded handguns, large quantities of cash and a variety of drugs believed to be marijuana, cocaine and oxycodone.

Police later raided a home on Prescott Crescent, where they found two shotguns and a handgun.

Ranger is also wanted in Ottawa on a number of outstanding charges.

A media release issued by Ottawa police in May 2016 stated Ranger should be considered "armed and dangerous."

This followed an incident in which a 30-year-old Ottawa man died from gunshot wounds, and a woman was hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

In an interview on Jan. 3, Ottawa police constable Chuck Benoit told tbnewswatch.com that "We are making arrangements with the Thunder Bay Police and we're coordinating things...the two police forces are speaking."

It's unclear yet whether the charges that Ranger faces in Thunder Bay will be dealt with before he is transferred to Ottawa where he was wanted on a warrant.
