THUNDER BAY – A suspect accused of murder will be heading to trial later this year on an unrelated assault charge.

Kyle Stoney appeared at the Thunder Bay Courthouse on Friday facing one count of assault, which he will stand trial against on Oct. 8.
Details about the assault charge are not known.

Stoney was the third person to be charged in the July 2014 death of 52-year-old Christopher Adams, who was the victim of a violent assault outside city hall in the early morning hours of Canada Day.

Adams died in hospital from his injuries on July 8.

While two co-accused, Carl Spencer Rae and Becky Mamakwa, were apprehended shortly after the incident, Stoney wasn’t arrested until Nov. 14.

Police previously said robbery appeared to be a motive.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
