Police are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2010.

Thunder Bay Police Service say the body of a 39-year-old man was found at 8:30 a.m. at the Inntowner Motor Hotel on Brodie Street Wednesday.

The Criminal Investigative Branch has started to examine the hotel room and interview residents for more information.

Chris Adams, executive officer with Thunder Bay Police Service, said police are waiting to hear from the coroner about when a post mortem will be completed.

Last year, city police investigated six homicides. Adams said there is no way to predict when a homicide will take place.

"A vast majority of homicides occur between people who know each other," Adams said. "That makes it a very difficult crime to predict."

Adams said police would likely release the name of the victim sometime Wednesday or Thursday following notification of the man's next of kin.

Police were unable to provide any further information.
