KENORA, Ont. -- A murder trial in this Northwestern Ontario city came to a bizarre halt Thursday, after the lawyer for one of the accused was appointed as a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice.

KENORA, Ont. -- A murder trial in this Northwestern Ontario city came to a bizarre halt Thursday, after the lawyer for one of the accused was appointed as a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice.

As a result, lawyer David Gibson can no longer represent Angela Duchene, who is charged with second-degree Murder in the 2009 death of a Kenora man.

Lawyer Chris Watkins, who represents the co-accused, Ken Ivall, says he's never heard of such a thing happening in the middle of a lengthy murder trial.

The parties will meet Friday to decide whether the trial can continue, or if a mistrial will have to be declared.
