A Thunder Bay murder trial is set to get underway next week at the Superior Court of Justice.

A Thunder Bay murder trial is set to get underway next week at the Superior Court of Justice.

Kesley Jacob, 35, of Summer Beaver First Nation faces a manslaughter charge in connection with the death of 53-year-old Barney Beaver from Webequie First Nation.

Beaver died in a hospital, one week after a violent incident in a room at the Victoria Inn on Dec. 17, 2011.

Jacob was originally charged with aggravated assault, but the case became a homicide after the victim’s death.

City Police have previously said the two men knew each other, and that alcohol was a factor in the incident.

Jacob's lawyer, George Joseph, and the lawyer for the Crown took part in a pre-trial conference Thursday to discuss the jury selection.

Jacob is currently free on bail.

The trial is scheduled to begin on Monday.
