A preliminary hearing for a young man charged with first-degree murder began Monday at the Ontario Court of Justice.

21-year-old Leif Hobson was arrested in connection with the death of 65-year-old Edgar Marion.

Marion's remains were found in a burnt-out vehicle found off Highway 11/17 back in July of 2009. Hobson's preliminary hearing in front of Justice Frank Valente is meant to determine whether there is enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial, and is expected to last all week.

Along with the murder charge, Hobson also faces charges of robbery, arson and performing an indignity to human remains.

He's being represented by Kenora lawyer David Gibson.
