THUNDER BAY -- A member of royalty made her annual stop for tea in the city on Sunday.

While it may not have been the real Queen Victoria that was sipping and indulging in a scone or two, that did not stop hundreds of people from visiting the Thunder Bay Museum for their 25th annual Victorian Tea.

Frank Gerry, the president of the museum’s board of directors, said while the event is a fundraiser it also provides popular public awareness about the museum.

“It gets people coming in the museum who might have never been here before,” Gerry said.

A long line of guests filled the museum, waiting to be seated on the second floor and be served tea, along with Devonshire cream and various pastries.

Last year more than 350 people were served with at least a similar turnout expected.

Sharon Diem served as the royal guest of honour for the second year. It’s something she has had little trouble getting used to.

“It’s quite nice to be treated as royalty,” she said with a laugh. “I hope to do it next year and for years to come.”

Organizers also enlist a number of local figures to assist with serving and pouring, with councillors Rebecca Johnson, Larry Hebert and

Paul Pugh as well as MP John Rafferty and Lakehead University president Brian Stevenson.
