NAN wants coroner’s inquest to examine racism in city, police investigation

THUNDER BAY – Representatives form Nishnawbe Aski Nation will request that the Coroner amend the scope of the Inquest into the deaths of First Nation students.

THUNDER BAY – Representatives form Nishnawbe Aski Nation will request that the Coroner amend the  scope of the Inquest into the deaths of First Nation students.

NAN wants the inquest to include issues such as the quality of the police investigation into the deaths and the impact of racism in Thunder Bay during a motion to be presented at the Thunder Bay Courthouse Tuesday morning.

The seven youths who have died while attending high school in Thunder Bay are:

  • Jethro Anderson, 15 years old, Kasabonika Lake First Nation
  • Curran Strang, 18 years old, Pikangikum First Nation 
  • Paul Panacheese, 19 years old, Mishkeegogamang First Nation 
  • Robyn Harper, 18 years old, Keewaywin First Nation
  • Reggie Bushie, 15 years old, Poplar Hill First Nation 
  • Kyle Morriseau, 17 years old, Keewaywin First Nation
  • Jordan Wabasse, 15 years old, Webequie First Nation
