Nearly two-thirds of young children in the Thunder Bay district have received COVID vaccine

THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has released updated data on COVID-19 vaccination rates in its service area.

According to statistics published Tuesday, about 64 per cent of the district's children ages 5 to 11 have now received at least one dose of vaccine.

Thirty-seven per cent of children in this age group have received a second dose.

In the 12 to 17 age group, almost 94 per cent have had at least one dose, nearly 88 per cent have had two shots, and about 13 per cent have received a booster shot.  

Based on a population of 162,303, eighty-five percent of all residents of the Thunder Bay district aged twelve and over have received at least two doses of vaccine.

TBDHU reports that just over 77,000 residents have now received three doses of vaccine.
