Neebing River death involved 49-year-old male

THUNDER BAY – The deceased has been identified and next of kin notified after a body was discovered in the Neebing River on Thunder Bay’s south side Tuesday.

The Thunder Bay Police Service described the deceased as a 49-year-old man in a statement issued Thursday, but did not name them.

The incident continues to be investigated by the police force’s Major Crimes Unit, it reported, while a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place in Toronto on Friday.

Police continue to hold and process a scene in the area behind the Arthur Street Marketplace. A body was observed in the river by a passerby, who called 9-1-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency crews established the person was deceased on arrival.
