Thunder Bay Police News Release
The Thunder Bay Police Service Cyber Crime Unit received a referral form the Provincial Strategy on Child Pornography in February 2015. A preliminary investigation resulted in a search warrant being executed on a residence in the 200 block of Mary Street East on April 21, 2015.
As a result of the search, officers arrested the occupant of the residence just before 9:30 a.m. on April 21, 2015. Officers also seized a laptop, two smart phones and thirteen USB sticks for further examination.
49 year old Thunder Bay resident John David CORNELL was charged with Possession of Child Pornography and Make Available Child Pornography. These charges are still before the courts.

As a result of the initial media release in April, a complainant came forward to report sexual crimes dating back to 2005 allegedly involving John David CORNELL and a female victim who was 11 years old at the time. Following an extensive investigation, the TBPS Cyber Crime Unit arrested and charged CORNELL in connection with these incidents.
John David CORNELL is now facing charges of Sexual Exploitation, Sexual Interference, Printing and Publishing Child Pornography and Criminal Harassment. He appeared in court via video today and was remanded into custody. His next court date is July 13, 2015.
