THUNDER BAY -- City police have laid new charges against the 36-year-old suspect arrested on Sunday after a Windsor Street standoff.
Kurt Maurice Downer already facing several charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, resisting a police officer, being in a dwelling unlawfully, breach of recognizance and breach of probation. Further charges are pending in the ongoing investigation.City police, in a release issued on Thursday afternoon, said Downer will also face charges of possession of Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of prohibited device or ammunition, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.
He has also been charged with knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon, prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of weapon obtained by crime, possession of firearm/ammo contrary to prohibition order, theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with condition recognizance.
Downer remains in custody pending a future court date.
