KENORA – The Northwestern Health Unit has confirmed a new case of COVID-19 in the Kenora region.

The news, which the health unit announced via Facebook Saturday, brings the total number of active cases in the NWHU’s area, which includes the Rainy River district and part of the Kenora district, to three.

The case could be located anywhere withing the health unit's Kenora region, which includes a large number of smaller communities and First Nations, with the full list available at the NWHU website.

The health unit did not provide any additional information about the case, such as age, gender, or whether a method of transmission had been determined.

The provincial government does publicly release that information, usually the day after an announcement is made by the health unit.

The NWHU is following up with the individual and has begun contact tracing, saying anyone identified as a close contact will be contacted directly.

The news comes a day after the health unit announced a visitor to Kenora from outside its catchment area had tested positive while in the city. That person had at least three close contacts in Kenora, including one who had already tested positive.
