New fast-food restaurants coming to Thunder Bay

Popeyes, BarBurrito and Edo Japan are all opening outlets.

THUNDER BAY — The fast-food restaurant sector in Thunder Bay is getting some new players.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen will open a location in the Thunder Centre on Fort William Road.

The City of Thunder Bay has received a building permit application for renovations to a vacant building adjacent to the Tbaytel store at  959 Fort William Road.

According to a city official, the space will be occupied by a Popeyes restaurant.

Popeyes was founded in New Orleans in 1972.

It is owned by Toronto-based Restaurant Brands International, which also owns the Tim Hortons and Burger King brands.

The city spokesperson said Tuesday that BarBurrito, which serves Mexican food, plans to open a location next door to Popeyes.

BarBurrito is also establishing a restaurant in Brentwood Village Mall on Arthur Street, the same property where Edo Japan will open a location.
