New forest fires cause little trouble for area MNR crews

Several new forest fires were confirmed this weekend, however they don’t appear to have caused too much trouble for MNR crews.

Officials with Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources say fire crews were able to put out most of the new fires.

MNR Information Officer Heather Pridham said even with most fires under control in this region, there’s no plan to send firefighters to Peachland, B.C.

“Currently the province of Ontario is not sending any fire rangers to British Columbia to help out with their forest fire situation,” Pridham said during an interview with CKPR Radio.

“However, we do have a four-person crew from Fort Frances that has crossed the border and they are helping out in Minnesota.”

Those firefighters have been in the U.S. since Thursday.
