The province officially named Paul Godfrey as the new chairman of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation Friday.

The well-known Progressive Conservative will head the corporation where scandals over insider wins and executive expenses have dogged the Liberal-led government of Dalton McGuinty for years.

The Canadian Press reports that Godfrey has previously said the appointment will not interfere with his duties at the National Post newspaper, where he is president and CEO.

The government says five other new members will also join the board.

The OLG runs Thunder Bay’s casino.
