New software remains an issue for Thunder Bay DSSAB

The Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration board has met for the first time this year.

And members of the board, both new and old, offered up their concerns over ongoing problems with provincial social assistance software.

Since the implementation of new provincial social assistance software in November, DSSAB has faced serious delays in processing Ontario Works applications.

The Thunder Bay District is not the only area facing these issues as many municipalities are reporting similar problems.

Board member and Coun. Iain Angus has introduced a motion asking the DSSAB to join 10 other municipalities in asking the Ontario government to address their concerns.

Chief Administrator Bill Bradica says they're starting to see some improvement with the system.

Thursday’s meeting also saw a lengthy discussion on the DSSAB's operating and capital budgets for 2015.

Some of that discussion centered on the reduction of full-time and part-time DSSAB staff, relating to the reduction in Ontario Works caseloads in recent years.
