New traffic lights up and running on Oliver Road

THUNDER BAY – The city’s newest set of traffic signals were switched on Tuesday morning.

THUNDER BAY – The city’s newest set of traffic signals were switched on Tuesday morning.

The lights are set up on Oliver Road, at the entrance to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre near the Lakehead University sports facilities.

The intersection was lobbied for by the LU student union after a female student was struck by a vehicle last year as she was walking across the busy street.

City council agreed to install the traffic signals as part of this year's budget.

They also voted to reduce the speed limit along that section of Oliver Road from 60 kilometres an hour down to 50 km/h.
