THUNDER BAY -- A Newcastle, Ont. woman is the latest Thunder Bay 50/50 grand prize winner.

Kaye Rand got the call on Friday, from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation president Glenn Craig, informing her she'd won $531,255..

“I cannot believe my good fortune to win the Thunder Bay 50/50 raffle,” Rand said, in a post published on the foundation's Facebook page.

“Even though I do not live in Thunder Bay, for years I have supported various hospital lotteries across the province."

Kaye said she supports health-care initiatives because she has a personal connection and genuine appreciation for health-care workers and the role they play in society.

"One of my three sons is a nurse and I am so appreciative of the services they provide us, as well as our provincial healthcare system. So purchasing this ticket was one way I thought I could give back to our hospitals and healthcare facilities," she said.

July's 50/50 draw ticket sales are now on sale at www.thunderbay5050.ca.

In addition to the grand prize there will be four early bird draws, three worth $5,000 and one, on July 22, worth $10,000.

The jackpot will be drawn for on July 29.
