THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced nine new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Saturday, with no new deaths or hospitalizations reported.
All but one of those cases were in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas, while one was in an unidentified district community.
There were 123 active cases of COVID-19 in the district Saturday, falling from the previous day's record-high 128.
Five of the new Thunder Bay area cases were considered a result of close contact with a previously identified case, while two are associated with a major outbreak at the Southbridge Roseview long-term care home, and an exposure category for one other case was still pending.
The case in a district community is considered a result of close contact.
The district has now had a cumulative total of 431 cases since the pandemic arrived here in March.
Meanwhile, Southbridge Roseview reported a decline in active cases associated with the outbreak there, despite the two new cases.
Updated numbers posted on the home’s website Saturday indicated 27 active cases among residents, and 20 among staff, down from 41 and 22 as recently as Thursday.
The outbreak has claimed the lives of seven Roseview residents, accounting for most of the nine deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the Thunder Bay District.
