NIPIGON, Ont. – Nipigon has solved its recycling dilemma, and has delivered its municipal budget with less than one per cent increase to the mill rate.
Recycling will be phased in over the next few months. Based on last year's pilot project, drop-off points will be established for disposing metals, aluminium, paper and plastics.
A recent survey of Nipigon residents showed 70 per cent approved of a recycling program even if it meant a one per cent increase in taxes.
Mayor Richard Harvey says his administration has improved efficiencies to keep average tax increases to .75 per cent.
Other items in Nipigon's 2015 budget include bringing water and sewer to the waterfront and road work on Railway Street.
That funding would be tied to the Nipigon Bridge construction.
