THUNDER BAY – The No. 3 team in the nation was just a little too much for the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday night.

The Queen’s Gaels stormed out to a 23-13 lead after the opening quarter at the Thunderdome and never looked back, trouncing the Thunderwolves 98-78, a team that had won seven of eight after the Christmas break.

Cole Syllas scored 28 to lead Queen’s offensively, grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Luka Syllas had 17 points, eight rebounds and nine assists.

Josh Strongman came off the bench and put up 17 for Lakehead (9-10), one of three players to hit double digits on the Thunderwolves.

Tyler Sagl had a dozen and Eduardo Hernandez Batista added 10.

LU slipped into 11th place with the loss, a game behind York (10-9) and half a game ahead of Brock (9-11). They’re two up on Waterloo (7-12), with top 12 teams making the postseason.

Next up for Lakehead is No. 9 Ontario Tech, who invade the Thunderdome on Saturday night.
