THUNDER BAY - No one was injured after a fire broke out on Friday during a shift change at Goldcorp's Musselwhite Mine.

A company spokeswoman, in an email response, said all workers were accounted for during the fire, which began at about 6 p.m.

"Emergency responders have been deployed and have initiated response procedures," said Christine Marks, director of corporate communications for Goldcorp Inc.

"We have informed local stakeholders and relevant government authorities of the incident. At this time, it is too early to determine the source of the fire or the impact on operations. We will provide an update when there is material information to share."

The mine, which has produced more than four million ounces of gold since April 1997, is located about 480 kilometres north of Thunder Bay on the southern shore of Opapimiskan Lake. It is connected by an all-weather road to Pickle Lake, 200 kilometres to its south.

The mine employs 712 workers and contractors, according to the company's website.
