The Regional Coroner says he doesn't think an inquest is necessary into the case of a fatal fall down an elevator shaft last year.

The tragic incident occurred on Oct. 5 at the Royal Edward Arms on May Street. A 31-year-old woman fell to her death down one of the two elevator shafts inside the social housing facility.

No other details have been released.

Northwest Coroner Dr. Michael Wilson says the victim's family has been given the results of his investigation, but those findings will not be made public.

He adds he does not think an inquest is required, unless the family requests one.

And Wilson says he is satisfied there is no public safety threat to other people in the building.

The Technical Standard and Safety Authority is also investigating the incident, specifically the elevator involved, which is still out of service.

The TSSA expects to have its report finalized by the end of February.
