Ontario Helps Celebrate 100th Anniversary  of Largest Brook Trout Ever Caught
Festival Supports Northern Tourism Sector

Ontario is investing in the Nipigon River Brook Trout Festival to strengthen tourism in the North and attract more visitors to the Nipigon area.

Through the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), $15,000 is being invested in the festival, which brings anglers and outdoor enthusiasts to the area. The three day event offers fishing workshops and demos, music, food and family activities.

The festival also commemorates the catch of a world record-sized brook trout that was caught in the Nipigon River 100 years ago. The annual event contributes to the economy of Nipigon and other Northwestern Ontario communities, promoting the region as a premier outdoor tourist destination, and helps support local jobs.

Strengthening the North’s tourism sector is part of the government's plan to build Ontario up.

The four-part plan includes investing in people’s talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario’s history, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives and building a secure retirement savings plan.
