NOMA calls on MNR to reverse announced park service cuts

The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association is joining efforts to get announced cuts in service at several provincial parks reversed.

The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association is joining efforts to get announced cuts in service at several provincial parks reversed.

Last month, the Ministry of Natural Resources announced as part of its cost-cutting efforts, it would no longer allow overnight at 10 Provincial Parks.

Nine of those parks are in Northern Ontario, with one here in the northwest -- the Caliper Lake Park near Fort Frances.

Officials with NOMA say the move will have a negative effect on local businesses and will reduce opportunities for campers.

So it's joined the the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities in an online petition campaign to try and get the decision changed.
