THUNDER BAY -- The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association is forwarding the names of two area politicians to voice the region's concerns over property assessment.
NOMA has delegated Past President Ron Nelson and Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs as potential names to sit among eight municipal reps on the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation board.
Hobbs was given the nod from Thunder Bay city council last Monday to represent its interests, while Nelson would be the voice for the region.
If he's accepted, Hobbs plans to push MPAC to stop the use of "economic obsolescence" as a factor in taxation.
That loophole allowed area mills to claim unused portions of their properties, and force towns to pay back millions of dollars in taxes.
