THUNDER BAY – The city is again looking to honour those committed citizens who work tirelessly to make this community a safer place.
On Thursday the city’s Crime Prevention Council officially opened nominations for the fifth annual Mayor’s Community Safety Awards at city hall.
The awards recognize Thunder Bay citizens and organizations that work toward making the community a safer place to live. Thunder Bay Hydro is a presenting sponsor.
Nominations must be received by Oct. 2, and will be awarded in three categories:
• Community Hero Award – For an outstanding individual effort that contributes to a safer community. Sponsor: Apex Investigations & Security Inc.
• Young Leader Award – For outstanding contributions by a youth who demonstrates and encourages active participation in community safety. The youth is a leader in a project in their community. Sponsor: Shout! Media
• Outstanding Community Project Award – For outstanding results in community safety or crime prevention through partnership and collaboration. Up to four projects may be awarded. Sponsors: Macs Convenience Stores, Thunder Bay Police Services Board and Union Gas
“Thunder Bay Hydro recognizes that the foundation of a safe community is both complex and multi-faceted,” said Eileen Dias, Communications and Events Coordinator with Thunder Bay Hydro in a city-issued media release.
“As a company, we seek to appreciate those in the community who have identified unique solutions and are working to bring them to reality. We are pleased to join the Mayor's Community Safety Awards to applaud their efforts.”
The awards will be presented during a special ceremony that will take place during the Nov. 2 meeting of City Council.
