Local band Norris had the surprise of a lifetime last week when their independently released record "Grammy" took home a Grammy award in the "Best International Underground Metal" category.
The record is a concept album that pays tribute to the lives and times of the member's grandmothers, and to the home-cooked cuisines that they provide.
In their acceptance speech, singer Curtis Wilson recalled fond memories of the band staying with his granny on their earliest tours.
"Grandma Coleman has been there for us since the beginning. She always ensures we have a cozy place to sleep and is willing to prepare a hearty breakfast of oatmeal pancakes and pea meal bacon, on demand."
Guitarist Sean Skillen agreed: "If it weren't for our grandmas procreating and cooking their delicious meals, I don't think any of us would be here to accept this award today."
Fellow shredder Justin Sillman recalls the motivation for the album's centerpiece song "Lettu".
"Mumu has always encouraged our musical endeavours by giving me a place to practice and compose, or by having the whole gang over for pancakes and bacon-wrapped sausage. That song is dedicated to her."
Drummer Josh Hogan and bassist Dave Angell weren't available for comment as they were out treating their respective maternal forebares to a celebratory breakfast in the wake of the exciting news.
