THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue credited a quick response by firefighters for resolving a fire in a North End residence with no injuries and minimal fire damage.

Firefighters responded to a structural fire on the 200s block of Fairbanks Crescent, near the intersection of John Street and Golf Links Road just before 6 p.m. Monday.

The first arriving unit called a second alarm after encountering heavy smoke and locating the fire in the basement of the home, said TBFR in a release.

The fire was quickly extinguished after an attack from the first arriving truck, leaving “minimal fire damage.” The TBFR report noted the home had suffered damage from smoke that had spread throughout the structure, however.

A total of six pumpers, a ladder truck, and a command vehicle responded to the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, TBFR said.
