A project on the north shore that has been in the works for more than a decade is nearing completion.
The need for a long-term care facility in the Schreiber and Terrace Bay area was first identified nearly 15 years ago. Now, work on the project is set to wrap up later this year.
The 22-bed, long-term care facility will be connected to Terrace Bay's McCausland Hospital. Over the years, residents of Terrace Bay and Schreiber raised more than $1.5-million toward the $7.5-million project. Hospital CEO Paul Paradis said the facility is much needed.
Paradis also said the facility should be substantially completed by September with occupancy by November.
Thunder Bay-Superior North MPP Michael Gravelle has worked closely on the project over the years, but he credits the community's hard work for getting the now almost completed facility.
The 22 new beds will mean new jobs at the hospital. It is unknown at this time just how many positions will be created as the hospital’s board works away on its budget.
