MARATHON, ON — Ontario Provincial Police have laid nearly a dozen charges against a St. Catharines-area man after an incident that began Tuesday afternoon at White River.
OPP were called just after 1:00 p.m. about a theft of fuel from a local gas station.
Police initiated patrols on Highway17 east of Marathon and spotted a car matching the description of the suspect's vehicle.
The driver reversed direction to avoid spike belts deployed across the road, but his compact car was subsequently located "stuck" along the highway.
OPP have charged the 27-year-old with 11 offences including theft, dangerous driving, speeding, driving without a driver's licence, driving a vehicle with no plates, and having cannabis readily available in a vehicle.
He was held at the Marathon OPP detachment pending a bail hearing.
A female passenger in his car was initially taken into custody as well, but was later released unconditionally.
