North shore traffic stop uncovers 200,000 unmarked cigarettes

SCHREIBER, ON —  Ontario Provincial Police arrested two Manitoba residents after seizing 21 cases of illegal tobacco during a roadside check near Rossport.

OPP said officers from the Schreiber detachment conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 in Lahontan Township on the night of Sunday, Feb. 17.

They discovered approximately 200,000 unmarked cigarettes and cigars in the vehicle.

A 50-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman face charges of trafficking in contraband tobacco and possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale.

Both accused were released for a future court appearance in Schreiber.
