THUNDER BAY – A Thunder Bay North Stars forward is facing an assault charge for an off-ice incident during Game 3 of the SIJHL championship final at Fort William Gardens.

Avery Siau will appear in court on May 25, confirmed a Thunder Bay Police spokesperson.

The 20-year-old allegedly punched Dryden coach Kurt Walsten following post-game encounter. He’s been suspended for 25 games for that incident and for an altercation with a Dryden player serving a penalty at the time.

Siau was already serving a one-game suspension when the incidents occurred and was not dressed for the North Stars.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
