The North’s political landscape will remain the same after a provincial plan to add more seats in Queen's Park.

Some national media outlets are now reporting that Premier Kathleen Wynne will announce a plan Thursday that would add 15 more seats to the Ontario legislature after the 2018 election.

The additional seats are meant to reflect the province’s growing population.

The plan would match the 121 federal ridings except in the North, which would keep its additional Ontario riding established in 2005.

The current 11 electoral districts considered northern in Ontario are:

  • Algoma—Manitoulin
  • Kenora—Rainy River
  • Nickel Belt
  • Nipissing
  • Parry Sound—Muskoka
  • Sault Ste. Marie
  • Sudbury
  • Thunder Bay—Atikokan
  • Thunder Bay—Superior North
  • Timiskaming—Cochrane
  • Timmins—James Bay
