THUNDER BAY -- Norton Rose Fulbright Canada is donating $125,000 to the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University, the largest corporate gift the Faculty of Law has received to date.

Norman Steinberg, Global Vice Chair of Norton Rose Fulbright and Chairman of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada, said:

“The Bora Laskin Faculty of Law was established to focus on access to justice. It prepares graduates to practice in smaller centres, serving clients who are currently under-serviced by the legal profession. The school has a mandate to focus its admission criteria on students, including those from First Nations, who have not traditionally formed part of law schools’ student demographic. We are pleased to support this, and to expand our diversity efforts in the Canadian legal education community."

Norton Rose Fulbright’s donation will establish a named award for a student from a historically disadvantaged group on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. It will also support students’ participation in the Wilson Moot, including attendance at Norton Rose Fulbright offices for practice sessions and coaching.

Lakehead University President & Vice-Chancellor Dr. Brian Stevenson was very pleased with Norton Rose Fulbright’s announcement.

“Enhancing accessibility to higher education has always been atop Lakehead’s commitments to our students and communities we serve. I am encouraged by Norton Rose Fulbright’s generous gift and welcome its leadership’s decision to support Canada’s newest Faculty of Law and our institution’s innovative approach to nurturing the next generation of legal practitioners.”

Lakehead University’s Bora Laskin Faculty of Law is committed to educating the next generation of lawyers – in the North and for the North – by providing tools to improve social conditions, enhance justice and ensure outstanding legal service.
