Number of active COVID-19 cases in Northwest drops

Active cases have fallen in the Northwestern Health Unit catchment area to 62 compared to 75 on Wednesday.

DRYDEN, Ont. - The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Northwestern Health Unit catchment area has fallen for the first time several days.

The NWHU is reporting eight new cases on Thursday, with one in the Emo region and seven in the Kenora region.

The active case count has fallen to 62, down sharply from 75 on Wednesday.

The majority of active cases remain in the Kenora region at 28, while 13 are in the Sioux Lookout region, 11 in the Fort Frances region, six in the Rainy River region, three in the Emo region, and one in the Dryden region.

There is an additional hospitalization due to the virus and there are currently two people in hospital.

Since the start of the pandemic, the NWHU has reported a total of 982 positive cases of COVID-19.

Vaccinations continue and to date 31,122 people have received at least one dose, or 48 per cent of the population over the age of 18.
