SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. – The Northwestern Health Unit reported three cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, marking a week of stability in its active case count.

The health unit reported one case each in its Fort Frances and Sioux Lookout health hubs on Saturday, and another in the Dryden hub on Sunday.

There were 53 active cases across the NWHU Sunday: 35 in its Sioux Lookout health hub, 10 in the Dryden hub, 6 in the Kenora hub, and 2 in the Fort Frances hub.

A COVID-19 outbreak in Lac Seul First Nation accounts a large number of the cases in the Sioux Lookout hub. The community reported 30 active cases as of Friday.

There were no active cases in the Atikokan, Emo, Rainy River, or Red Lake hubs. A full list of communities in each hub is available at the health unit’s website.

Active cases have remained between 49 and 53 across the NWHU since May 10, after falling sharply from 78 on May 9.

On Friday, medical officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon said she'd want to see those numbers continue to fall consistently before recommending an easing of public health measures from the current provincial stay-at-home order.

Three district residents were in hospital with the virus Sunday, unchanged from the previous day.

The NWHU has reported 1,031 cases since the pandemic began, with 53 active and 978 resolved, including seven deaths.
