NWHU announces three new COVID-19 cases

Two new cases in Kenora region, one in Sioux Lookout region announced by health unit Sunday

SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. – The Northwestern Health Unit announced three new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, as the virus continues to spread in the region. 

Two of the new cases are located in the health unit's Kenora region, with another located in its Sioux Lookout region. 

Both are broad geographic areas including well over a dozen communities, which are fully listed on the health unit's website.

As of Friday, there were 23 active COVID-19 cases in the NWHU's territory, which covers the westernmost part of Ontario, including the Rainy River district and part of the Kenora district. Active case figures are not updated by the health unit over the weekend.

The Kenora region has been particularly hard hit, accounting for 20 of the active cases as of Friday. A COVID-19 outbreak was declared at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Kenora over the weekend, involving two individuals who have tested positive.

The health unit also announced one new COVID-19 case in the Kenora region on Saturday.
