The Northwestern Health reported 256 new COVID-19 cases Monday, while the number of residents in hospital with the virus rose to nine.
The total number of active cases across the NWHU rose to an all-time high of 410 with the record single-day case count.
Monday’s total included 104 cases in the Kenora area, 96 in the Sioux Lookout area, 23 in the Fort Frances area, 21 in the Dryden area, four each in the Red Lake and Emo areas, two each in the Atikokan and Rainy River areas.
The staggering surge in cases is consistent with provincial trends driven by the highly contagious Omicron variant, with Ontario reporting a record 16,714 new cases on Saturday. The province reported another 13,578 on Monday.
