October projected to be colder than normal

Environment Canada meteorologist says "you'll feel it."

THUNDER BAY — Weather forecasters predict the cooling trend that started in northwestern Ontario in the latter part of September will continue through most of the month of October.

Environment Canada meteorologist Gerald Cheng said "You'll feel it. And it will feel like fall. It won't be like September at all."

Cheng was referring to the fact that, despite some chillier weather recently, the average daytime high in Thunder Bay last month—18.6 C—was 1.5 degrees more than the long-term average for September.

"We promised a warmer September, and we did deliver, but I'm afraid we're going to have to go back down, because it looks like it's going to be below seasonal for the month of October."

Cheng said he doesn't expect a significant drop below normal temperatures through the entire month.

However, starting the middle of this week, the forecast daily high is five to nine degrees below the usual maximum of 14 C, for at least four consecutive days.

Some forecast models are currently indicating a temperature rebound in November, but Cheng said it's too early to consider those outlooks reliable.
