THUNDER BAY – City police officers nailed about 125 drivers this week for speeding in a section of the Harbour Expressway that is currently under construction.

Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Sgt. Glenn Porter issued a media release on Friday, detailing the amount of infractions in the now 50 kilometre per hour zone.

Some drivers have been clocked as fast as 96 kilometres per hour.

Starting on Monday, only the eastbound lanes have been open between the Thunder Bay Expressway and Golf Links Road

Porter advises drivers the reduced speed limit is in effect at all times, even if there are not any workers present.

However, if there are workers at the scene the speeding fines are doubled.

Any driver who exceeds the limit by more than 50 kilometres per hour will face a seven-day license suspension and weeklong impoundment of their vehicle.
