THUNDER BAY – Employees from the city’s OLG Casino are taking part in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.
The annual event encourages people to clean up their community by removing litter from a local shoreline.
The Casino's "Bet on Green" team headed to McVicar Street just off Algoma Street to pick up as much junk as possible Monday. The team has spent four years at McVicar Creek because the area for them is close to home.
Event spokeswoman Sandra Reith says they've noticed a decrease in the amount of garbage over the years, but there's still a lot of work to be done.
OLG is the provincial sponsor of the 2012 cleanup, because the lottery corporation feels green initiatives are important to all communities across Ontario.
Last year around 400 people volunteered across Ontario with more than 20 teams participating. This year, 16 people are part of Thunder Bay's team.
