Oliver Paipoonge councillor questions why there's no day for White people

Allan Vis voted against adopting a Day of Action versus Anti-Asian Racism at a recent council meeting, saying there are already too many days for special interest groups.

OLIVER PAIPOONGE – An Oliver Paipoonge councillor is in hot water after questioning the need for a Day of Action versus Anti-Asian Racism and asking when there might be a day for White people.

Allan Vis was the lone dissenting vote when the motion was brought up at a recent town council meeting.

“I’m opposed to that,” Vis said. “When are we going to declare a day for White people? Everybody wants to have a day and I think we’ve had enough days, so I’m not in favour of that.”

Reached on Thursday by Thunder Bay Television, Vis said his words might have been misunderstood, adding he’s not against any minority groups, reiterating he doesn’t think there needs to be another day honouring another group.

His comment was met by silence from the rest of Oliver Paipoonge council, who then voted 4-1 in favour of passing the motion.
