One dead in two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 near Upsala

A 47-year-old Sioux Lookout, Ont., resident has been identified as the person who died in a fatal collision on Wednesday afternoon.

Thunder Bay Ontario Provincial Police have identified Ravindrakumar Naik, 47, of Sioux Lookout as the deceased in a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday, Feb. 3, near the Township of Upsala, according to a news release.

UPSALA, ONT., — A 47-year-old Sioux Lookout resident has been identified as the person killed in a collision near the Township of Upsala on Highway 17 on Wednesday.

Ontario Provincial Police have identified Ravindrakumar Naik as the deceased in a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday, Feb. 3, according to a news release.

Thunder Bay OPP along with ambulance and fire emergency services responded to the collision on Highway 17 approximately four kilometres west of the Township of Upsala just before 3:30 p.m on Feb. 3.

Police say a Chevy Silverado pickup truck and a Hyundai Tucson SUV were involved in the collision. The driver of the Hyundai was declared deceased at the scene and the driver and passenger of the pickup truck were treated by paramedics for minor injuries.

Highway 11/17 was closed for several hours for investigators to process the scene, OPP said. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place in Toronto later this week.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision has been initiated by the OPP Technical Collision Investigation Unit in conjunction with members of the Shabaqua OPP detachment.
