One dead, two injured in Highway 17 collision

The driver of a pickup is dead and two passengers are in hospital with undetermined injuries after a colllision with a transport Friday morning.

THUNDER BAY – One man is dead and two people are in hospital with undetermined injuries after a collision between a transport truck and a pickup truck on Highway 17 near Raith on Friday.

Emergency responders were called to the collision, about 25 kilometres north of the Highway 11/17 junction at Shabaqua Corners, around 9:20 a.m. Friday.

The incident left the male driver of the pickup dead, while two passengers were in hospital with undetermined injuries, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

The driver of the transport truck was not harmed, police said.

The highway has been reopened to alternating traffic, after the incident fully closed it between Shabaqua Corners and Upsala for much of the day.
