UPDATE: One in custody following serious assault on Cumberland Street

Mavis Oskineegish, 26, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault in connection with a Thursday night incident that left another woman with serious injuries.

THUNDER BAY — A woman is in hospital with serious injuries and another woman has been charged following a serious assault on Cumberland Street on Thursday night.

Thunder Bay police were dispatched shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3 to respond to reports of an injured woman inside the Prince Arthur Hotel, according to a police news release.

When police responded, they located a seriously injured woman who appeared to be a victim of a recent assault. A suspect was identified and located at the scene. 

Mavis Pricilla Susan Oskineegish, 26, of Summer Beaver, Ont., appeared in court on Friday, Dec. 4, by phone and was officially charged with one count of aggravated assault in connection to the incident.

Police say the victim's injuries were serious, but are not considered to be life-threatening. She was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries by emergency medical services.

Oskineegish was remanded into custody and will appear in court next on Monday, Dec. 7.
