One driver was sent to hospital with minor injuries Monday after a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Junot Street and Red River Road.
Thunder Bay Police said a man driving a white pick-up truck was hit, which wound up over a curb and crashed through a traffic light, suffered the injuries.
"There was a southbound minivan that went through a red light and struck and eastbound pick-up truck. There was a red Pontiac Sunfire beside the pick-up truck. As a result the white pick-up truck went out of control, struck the light standard on the southeast corner of the intersection and did a lot of damage," Traffic Sgt. Glenn Porter said Monday afternoon.
"The 80-year-old male driving the minivan was charged with failing to stop at the red light."
Porter added drivers must take extra precaution in post-storm conditions, reminding them that the new LED traffic lights don't melt the snow away.
"They're great, because they're a lot brighter, a lot more visible for a lot of reasons. However, in weather like this there's no internal heat source on them, so the snow doesn't get melted off as quickly as it did in previous years. So you have to pay attention. You can still see the light, even if it's covered up lightly by snow. But you have to be watching for it."
