One person dead after fatal collision involving tractor trailer in Nipigon

A Sunday night collision has claimed the life of a southern Ontario man.

NIPIGON - A Mississauga Ont., man has been identified by Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police as the person killed in a fatal collision on Sunday night in Nipigon Township.

Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11/17 in Nipigon Township near the Ontario Provincial Detachment on Sunday, Nov. 8, at approximately 7 p.m., according to a news release issued on Monday, Nov. 9.

Police say an eastbound passenger car and westbound tractor trailer collided, according to initial investigation reports by police.

Officers say the lone occupant of the car, 34-year-old Brian Joseph Saude of Mississauga, Ont., was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the tractor-trailer were injured, police say.

Nipigon Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services both responded to the incident. 

The OPP’s Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct their investigation as well.

Highway 11/17 was closed for several hours before reopening shortly after 2 a.m. 

Police say the investigation into the cause of the collision continues.
